Hi Christian,
Fly Geyser is not open to the public. We hope to open it next year to the
general public as a managed recreation/visitor area. I am sorry you will
not be able to visit the site this year. We get requests daily for special
access and simply cannot accommodate them.
We have had problems with vandalism and damage and are very concerned with a
growing perception that the geyser is public land. If we allow public
access, we are concerned that the geyser will be further damaged or
destroyed.
Our government has not been willing to purchase the land for market value so
everyone can enjoy it.
Keeping security and maintenance in place is quite expensive for a private
property owner. We researched our options for allowing access and found
that a combination of expensive liability insurance in the USA and the need
for on-site security makes it very expensive for us to open access, even for
special circumstances. It is prohibitively expensive to secure insurance
and have security personal travel there for visits. Instead, we have an
alternative security system that does not require constant staffing.
Because of these issues, we are working to establish permanent security,
construct some safety improvements and amenities and charge enough to cover
insurance and other costs. We hope to get our system in place before next
spring.
Sorry again I don't have better news for you. I have added your e-mail to
an interest list that I have compiled. I will send an e-mail update when
the geyser is opened to the public.
