A year in the USA

I am sorry that I have to do this in English, but I will hope that you will be able to cope with it. As it is a USA forum I reckoned that someone might know a bit of English.

The reason why I write is that I have been thinking about a year in an English speaking country e.g. USA, but I have not picked any country so far. I have got one more year in school and after that year the trip should be. At that time I will be 19 years old. My English is OK as you hopefully can see. I would like to learn English and life with a native family and then go to some kind of school where you learn English, I would like to be able to meet as many natives as possible, if you understand.

So if any of you have got some advice or help, I would be very glad to know.

You should contact an exchange organisation, that could help you to go as an Au-Pair or to an US-college.

Hi there,

Since this is indeed mostly a travel forum, you might find this link a bit more helpful: www.talkaboutusa.com

There you can find infos on visa, places to live etc.  Most members live or have lived in the US at some point.

To stay in the US for a year, you will need something more than a tourist (visitor's) visa, so that is something to consider right from the start.  You can find a wealth of information pertaining to this on the above mentioned website.

Since you already have a basic knowledge of the language, you will probably not need an English class, living here and interacting with people on a daily basis will bring you up to speed in no time.

I don't know if you are male or female, but in case you are female, your best bet would be to contact an au-pair organisation.  Again, you will find lots of infos on talkaboutusa.com
