American "girl"

I am an American who doesn't speak or read German.  I understand that there are many who enjoy Big Brother on television, and wonder if you get our American version or one just with Germans.
I appreciate any feedback, but please make it English:  simple and basic is fine.  I'm impressed by anyone who would spend the time to communicate with me!
Thank you,
Babe

Hi,

I do not enjoy Big Brother - but perhaps I can explain:

Big Brother is a television programm, made by Endemol. This is a production company from the netherlands and they sell their programms all over Europe - but they do not synchronise - they produce new episodes with locals.

Big Brother starts in the Netherlands and was a great success. Then they adapted Big Brother in Germany for RTL. First time Big Brother was in a house - build in Hürth near Cologne. This was the year 2000.

The rules:

100 days, 10 persons, 250.000 DM prize (125.000 $).

In the first Big Brother house the inhabitants have just some easy wirk to do and (I think) to wait..

Here you can see the inhabitants.

Winner was the unemployed John.

Then: Second Season

Start was End of Sept. 2000

The inhabitants have to solve more difficult things. They know, how many people are watching and they pose.

Now - 2005
Season 6 - Big Brother is not just one house - it is a small village - with one poor, one middle income and one rich house. The people have to work. (farm, car repair, T-Shirt manufacturer). It is open end.

The participating people are german (or live in Germany).

Big Brother USA starts 2000 too.

It is a wasting of time.... imho...

Dear Antje,
Thank you for your well-written explanation.  I agree, television shows in general waste a lot of time!  I am interested, though, how things are different in Europe with the same or similar show/music/book in the US.  Thanks again,
Babe
