Super Tipp, Thomas und Antje,
da bin ich bisher achtlos dran vorbei gefahren. Dabei gibt auch Map'n'Go einen Hinweis:
Glenwood Springs
Hot mineral springs and natural vapor caves have made Glenwood Springs popular since the days of the Ute Indians. During the mining boom the newly rich from Aspen and other bonanza towns came by special train to enjoy the waters at this fashionable spa. Doc Holliday, a dentist with a sideline as a gunslinger, is buried in nearby Lynwood Cemetery. His tombstone is inscribed ''He died in bed.''
Ten miles east on I-70 and US 6 through Glenwood Canyon is the beginning of a fairly steep 1.7-mile trail to Hanging Lake in Dead Horse Gulch, a water-filled rocky bowl literally clinging to the face of a cliff 1,200 feet above the floor of the canyon. Spouting Rock Creek, which feeds the lake, creates Bridal Veil Falls.
Glenwood Springs lies along the scenic stretches of two highways: I-70 from Grand Junction to Georgetown and SR 82 from Glenwood Springs to Aspen, over Independence Pass to Granite (the pass is closed in winter).
