hab dies gerade von einer freundin geschickt bekommen.da ich 2 jahre auf long island (NY) gelebt habe, kann ich nur sagen, dass vieles wirklich stimmt.aber trotzdem ist es echt zum schmunzeln
vorsicht lang!!
Only those of us who have lived on Long Island (N.Y.) will truly appreciate
this.............
You're truly from Lawn Guylan (Long Island) if
you can relate to any of the following:
1. You've always loved Billy Joel and you own several of his "records."
2. You actually know someone who went to "Sachem"....
3. Seeing a concert at Jones Beach Marine Theater..the
best place in the world to see a show. (bonus points if you're old enough
to have seen Guy Lombardo pilot his speedboat past the seats at full
throttle!)
4. Is it just me, or is every girl from Nassau County a bitch?
....hey, watch it!!
5. Billy Joel said it best, "either you date a rich girl from the
North Shore or a cool girl from the South Shore."
6. What's the big deal about the Hamptons ?
7. If you're not from Long Island or one of the five boroughs, you're not
really from "NEW YAWK!"
8. You don't go to Manhattan....you go to "The City."
9. When someone asks you, "where are you from?", you
don't say N.Y....you say "from Lawn Guylan" like it was
already the 51st state.
10. You never, EVER, want to "change at Jamaica........."
11. You never realize you have an accent until you leave (or until you go
back for a visit and everyone sounds funny!)
12. Your parents took you to Nathans or Carvel (on the way home from the
beach).
13. The Belt Parkway is somethng you want to avoid!
14. You've been to the OBI..............
15. At some point in your life, you've either gone clamming
or caught a bluefish.
16. Good (I mean GREAT) pizza is located no more than
ten minutes away.....from ANY PLACE.........
17. Although they are within close driving distance, you may
not have visited the Empire State Building, the Statue of
Liberty, the Museum of Natural History, etc.....BUT YOU
HAVE BEEN TO RADIO CITY MUSIC HALL AT LEAST
ONE TIME!
18. You replace the letter "r" from the end of words that end
with "r" with an "ah"...i.e., wantah........beah.......mothah,
fathah, sistah, brotha.
19. You curse..........A LOT !!!
20. You can name at least three players on the Islanders
Stanley Cup teams.
21. You've "body-surfed" at Jones Beach.....or, actually
surf-boarded at Gilgo Beach.
22. A "public" beach.......what's that?
23. Is the club scene really that great?....(only if you're a
"guido")
24. Going to the diner at 2:00 a.m. (with a bunch of "guidos"
from the club)
25. Either your parents or your grandparents live in "the city"
(or one of the five boroughs)
26. You've had a seagull 'crap' on your car.
27. No matter how big your current house is now, you can't
believe how your old house has shrunk, upon a visit....
28. You or someone you know has owned an animal that
came from the North Shore Animal League.
29. You've "cruised" on Hempstead Turnpike, Jericho
Turnpike, or Northern Blvd. in a Mustang GT.or a
convertible with the top DOWN.
30. You know someone with a cabana on the 'Jewish
Riveria' (Long Beach, Lido Beach Rockaway Beach,etc.)
31. You've walked through the tunnels at Smith's Point or
the underpass at Jones Beach.
32. The speed limit is posted at 55 on the L.I.E.; but, in
reality, traffic travels at 5 mph.
33. Quick!.......Who is the Nassau County Executive? Don't
know, do you?! AND you don't give a damn!
34. You don't have to go far to see the rest of your family.
35. Grumman
36. You know the exact streets that divided your school
districts, but have no idea which voting district you're in.
37. You've gotten drunk at the Boardy Barn.
38. You know the difference between WLIR and WDRE,
even though they played the same music.
39. You are an Islander/Met/Jet fan or a Ranger/Yankee/
Giant fan and there is NO passover, PERIOD!
40. You can correctly pronounce places like Happauge,
Ronkonkoma, Islandia, Quogue, Massapequa (which, by
the way is 'Matzoh-Pizza' because of the Jewish and
Italian population .........the home of Ray Romano)
41. Doesn't everyone in the country pay at least $5500 a
year in property taxes on a Levitt-sized home?
