stimmt, jetzt wo du es sagst fällts mir auf.
Bei mir wars das gleich wie bei dir einmal am Time Square und es war auch noch soooooo heiß und die Füße qualmten schon.    

Einzelfälle bzw. seltene Fälle denke ich jetzt mal, wenn man es auf NYC bezieht!? Oder?

Steigt man immer hinten ein, bzw. öffnet man dort die Tür und sagt dann "how much does it cost to the airport (f.e.)? "

Generell würde ich mal sagen, man steigt schon immer hinten ein. Es sei denn, man ist mit drei Personen unterwegs, so daß sich jemand nach vorne zum Fahrer setzt. Sonst wird man eben echt blöd angeschaut oder rausgeworfen. Generell gibt man 10 % Trinkgeld und in den größeren Städten kann man überall ein Taxi bekommen, indem man es heranwinkt.


Als ich das erste MAa alleine drüben war, wollte ich auch zuerst vorne beim Fahrer einsteigen, habe mich gerade noch entsinnen können, dass man das in den USa nicht macht.    Hatte bisher noch nie Probleme beim Taxi fahren drüben und immer nur sehr nette Unterhaltungen mit den Fahrern gehabt.

Taxi Fares
Cabs are cash only and it's a good idea to have small bills because the cabbies can't usually break anything higher than $20. While cabs are relatively expensive for a single person, they can actually be a bargain with 3 or more riders. The rates for taxicabs are as follows:

   Initial fare.............$2.00
   Each 1/5 mile (4 blocks).$0.30
   Each 1 minute idle.......$0.20
   Night surcharge..........$0.50 (after 8pm until 6am)
   Additional riders........FREE

Pay only what's on the meter, plus a 15-20 percent gratuity. There are additional charges for crossings outside the metropolitan area and New Jersey. Passengers are required to pay one way. If you are going to airports, there are set fees plus toll and tip.

Hailing a Cab
The act of flagging down a cab is called "hailing"; there's not much to it, just stick out your arm and pretend you're the Statue of Libery. When the numbers on the roof of the cab are lit, it is available. Yellow Medallion cabs are the only ones authorized to pick up hails. Avoid "gypsy" cabs at all costs. These are regular cars that will take you from place to place; they usually cost more than cabs and aren't as well regulated (or as safe).

Taxi cabs are required to take you to your destination inside the metropolitan area. Record the ID number from any cabs that you have problems with and report them to the Taxi and Limousine Commission.

Getting to and from JFK International Airport
Taxis into the city take anywhere from 30-60 minutes. They cost $30 to Manhattan NOT including bridge tolls and tip (these are an additional 4 dollars). Taxis are cash only. Make sure to hail a cab in the designated areas or ask a uniformed airport employee to help you. Generally, it's polite to tip at least a dollar per bag if the taxi driver assists


Getting to and from LaGuardia Airport
Taxis into the city take anywhere from 20-40 minutes. They cost between $16-$26 NOT including bridge tolls (these are an additional 3 dollars). Taxis are cash only. Make sure to hail a cab in the designated areas or ask a uniformed airport employee to help you. Generally, it's polite to tip at least a dollar per bag if the taxi driver assists you.


Getting to and from Newark International Airport
Taxis into the city take anywhere from 20-45 minutes. They cost $30-$38 NOT including bridge tolls (these are an additional 10 dollars). Taxis are cash only. Make sure to hail a cab in the designated areas or ask a uniformed airport employee to help you. Generally, it's polite to tip at least a dollar per bag if the taxi driver assists you.

Hab noch nie ein Taxi gesehen das Kreditkarte od. sonstiges als Zahlungsmittel annimmt ausser Cash !!!

Womit wir mal echt ne Seltenheit hätten im Amiland, hm? Ich denk das ist das wohl Einzige, was nicht mit CC bezahlt werden kann...

Da muss ich dir zustimmen KarinaNYC den ich habe sogar mal in L.A. nähe des Beverly Center´s mal an einem Hot Dog Stand mit der CC bezahlt.

Ob Taxis Kreditkarten nehmen, kommt auf das Taxiunternehmen an. Ich jedenfalls habe schon mit Kreditkarte gezahlt. Aber die KK wurde mir auch schon verweigert, obwohl sie die KK-Kleber dran hatten.

Am besten im voraus fragen oder halt immer genuegend cash mitnehmen.

der aktuelle Festpreis von JFK nach Manhattan ist 45 Dollar plus Brückenzoll. Wohl aufgrund der gestiegenen Benzinpreise erhöht worden. Ich kann mich noch dran erinnern, dass der vor nicht allzu langer Zeit noch bei 35 Dollar gelegen hat.
Von Manhattan zum JFK gibts dagegen keinen Festpreis. Inclusive Brückenzoll aber über 50 Dollar. Hier sollte man aber immer einen Festpreis mit dem Fahrer vereinbaren.

PS: Und viel Spass bei der Taxifahrt! Ich hatte in den Staaten noch nie nen Fahrer, der noch nicht in Germany oder Europa war ("Where are you from?" "Frankfurt, Germany" "Oooohhhhhh, Frääänkfoooort!")  

Hm, ich hatte in New York eher das Gefühl, nur Taxifahrer zu haben, die noch nie in New York waren

Einem musste ich sogar erklären, wie das System der Einbahnstrassen in den Avenues und Streets in Manhattan funktioniert.  

Wie stand in irgendeinem Reiseführer, den ich mal gelesen habe:
"Wundern Sie sich nicht darüber, wenn ihr Taxifahrer sich nicht auskennt und kaum englisch spricht. Er ist wahrscheinlich kürzer in New York als Sie!"
