Air France (AF) completed its purchase of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines on 04-May-2004, creating an airline that will be the world's largest as measured by revenue. The carriers will continue operating under separate brands. The airlines' combined 2003 revenue was $23 billion, 32% greater than that of American, the world's biggest carrier by revenue and traffic. The merged carriers will overtake British Airways as Europe's biggest by traffic.
