Ancient Storytellers Offer

Visitors Educational View of Native America

Ancient Storytellers, a unique, Native-owned,
non-profit organization committed to educating
visitors about Northern New Mexico and the history of
the Pueblo People, now offers personal tours of the
eight northern Indian Pueblos and the Navajo Nation.

"Our tours and cultural activities allow our visitors
to experience a truly realistic view of Pueblo people
as contemporary and indigenous people who value their
language, culture and homeland,' said Theresa True,
who along with Elaine Filbert, operates Ancient
Storytellers Tours.

Ancient Storytellers Tours will arrange individual
tours, but also offers five-day tours to the Pueblos
(including Tesuque, Pojoaque, Nambe, San Ildefonso,
Santa Clara, San Juan, Picuris and Taos) and Navajo
land.

"Ancient Storytellers Tours gives New Mexicans and
their visitors a genuine cultural experience," said
Fred Peralta, New Mexico Tourism Department secretary.
"There is no better way to discover the beauty,
enthusiasm and tradition of the pueblos and of Navajo
land than through the people that have inhabited those
lands for generations. You will find a people rich in
natural and cultural resources and heritage."

Tours to the Northern Indian Pueblos include visits to
ancient sites, historical churches, buffalo herds,
waterfalls, national monuments and historical
landmarks.

"Enjoy a traditional pueblo meal, observe a pottery
demonstration, purchase authentic Native American art
and even have an opportunity to make your own
pueblo pottery," True said. The Navajo land five-day
tour offers "unforgettable historical, cultural and
scenic sites. You'll experience many of the cultural
activities, including storytelling, silversmithing,
traditional cooking and dancing. Tour the capital of
the Navajo Nation, visit a trading post, shop for arts
and crafts, camp and visit the Hopi Reservation."

Ancient Storytellers Tours can also customize for
group tour operators, travel agents and group tour
companies.

"Working for the Eight Northern Pueblos Council in the
tourism department, we noticed the need to offer
visitors a guided tour, a cultural tour around
the pueblo," True said. "After signing in at the
governor's office, they were pretty much on their own.
They needed someone to help show them around,
to provide education and history and possibly private
dancing or a traditional meal. They can watch a
pottery demonstration, then, when it's over, buy
directly from the artisans. Everyone benefits."
