Do I have to be a member to stay at an HI hostel?
Yes, you need to be a member of Hostelling International to stay at an HI-USA. If a guest is not a member they have the option of either purchasing a full annual membership or temporary membership during their stay. If you are not a U.S. resident you can still purchase an HI-USA membership while traveling in America. This membership is also valid around the world, including your home country. To ensure that you always have access to the HI global network, along with the many other membership related discounts and benefits in the US and around the world, it is highly recommended that you become a member before you travel. (See membership section on this site for more information on how to become a member)
