Park Avenue Deluxe
New York-New York's $30 million renovation project takes the property to a whole new level.
Over the past year and a half, New York-New York Hotel and Casino has evolved into one of the premier resort destinations in Las Vegas with the additions of Zumanity, Nine Fine Irishmen, a new marquee, remodeled suites and a revamped Bar at Times Square. Known throughout the world as “The Greatest City in Las Vegas” with its Manhattan skyline, Brooklyn Bridge, Statue of Liberty and Central Park, New York-New York has embraced the essence of the Big Apple. That New York flair is now being incorporated into the property's next stage of evolutions: the $20 million renovation of its 1,370 standard guest rooms.
Warm and contemporary the new Park Avenue Deluxe rooms provide a stylish retreat high above the energy and excitement of the Las Vegas Strip. The look achieves a cosmopolitan yet residential interior, honed from classic lines of New York City itself. Block pattern drapery in cool color tones of blue and brown are complemented by textured block-pattern carpet. Botanical blue and beige bedspreads complete the room's color palate creating a comfortable, relaxing atmosphere. Why did New York-New York decide it was time to remodel all of its former Skyline Rooms? “We had basically not altered any of our rooms since we opened for business back in 1997,” said Senior Vice President of Marketing & Development Tom McCartney. “The style of rooms were becoming outdated, material were starting to show wear and tear, and many customers were not happy with the lighting in the rooms. This renovation project will no doubt bring our room product up to par with the rest of our competition.”
The Park Avenue rooms feature many new and exciting amenities. In fact, each and every item in the rooms is brand new. Some of the new additions include a 27” flat screen television, a wall safe, a lighted makeup mirror, a glass shower enclosure, a framed full-lengthed mirror, decorative artwork, stylish lamps, and marble flooring throughout the bathroom area. Closets have been replaced by multifunctional, lighted armoires allowing for a dramatically larger entryway. One change in the Park Avenue rooms that has pleased many New York-New York customers has been the addition of a work desk equipped with high-speed Internet access.
“Businessmen especially love these new rooms because of the addition of a desk,” said Front Desk employee Gail Murphey. “Beyond that, I've had many people come down and tell me the new rooms are beautiful and thank me for helping them with their decision. Most people can't believe that there is only a $25 price increase from the old Skyline rooms. Even though the new rooms are the same size as the old ones, the reactions have been great.”
The success of the Park Avenue renovation project has been dependent upon the teamwork of both the Hotel Operations and Housekeeping departments. Each week of the project a varying number of rooms are completed and made available to New York-New York guests. On Thursdays, before the rooms are made available, the Housekeeping Department has been responsible for deep cleaning and preparing the rooms. A group of 15-20 GRA's split up into pairs and attach each room simultaneously. After ridding the rooms of construction dust and glue by doing a thorough deep cleaning, the GRA's then make up the beds, stock towels and prepare the room to be checked by members of the Housekeeping management staff.
“We have been working as a team to get all of these rooms done,” said GRA Lillian Menedez. “It's quiet the process to get them ready for guests but with hard work we've been managing to have them all ready for Thursday night inspections.”
“The rooms are really coming together,” said Houseperson Cynthia Hernandez who has been responsible for running supplies to the GRA's during the cleaning process. “It's been a success so far because we have all been working really well together.”
On Thursday nights after the GRA's have completed getting the rooms ready Director of Housekeeping Don Driscoll along with other members of the Housekeeping management team go through and inspect each room before contacting Hotel Operations and letting them know that the rooms are ready for guests.
“This project would not be a success without the teamwork of each employee involved,” said McCartney. “Employees have played such a major role in having this all come together. In fact, it was the input from employees that helped us put the design together for these new Park Avenue rooms.”
To date, the Park Avenue room renovation project has actually moved a little ahead f schedule. The completion date has been moved up from September to the new projected finishing date of late July. “Thanks to Tome Sinatra, Bill O'Connor, Don Driscoll, Leslie Young and their respective staff we've been able to run ahead of schedule, “ said McCartney.
With the new Park Avenue Deluxe rooms now being put back into place, New York-New York Hotel and Casino has vaulted itself into one of Las Vegas' premier resort destinations. Stylish, unexpected, and vibrant the Park Avenue Deluxe rooms gives guests another great reason to make a visit the Big Apple. Ya gotta love this town!
